GWCUA — The Ukrainian Gold Wing Club in the European Community

Gold Wing: More Than a Motorcycle

Gold Wing is not just a motorcycle. It is a symbol of the open road, reliability, comfort, and trust. That is why an entire global movement has formed around this model — a community that has existed for decades and operates within a clearly structured international organization.

In Europe, this movement is represented by the Gold Wing European Federation (GWEF). The federation unites 24 national clubs and for more than 40 years has served as a platform for the development of motorcycle touring and international cooperation among riders. The total number of participants exceeds 35,000 members. Each country may be represented by only one official club. Other organizations do not have the status of legitimate representation within the European federation. In Ukraine, the official club is Gold Wing Club Ukraine (GWCUA).

Ukraine’s Path to the European Federation

Ukraine joined the Gold Wing European Federation in 2006.

The admission procedure lasts more than two years and includes the preparation of documentation, verification of compliance with federation standards, internal auditing, and voting by all member countries.

Many countries wait years to be accepted, which highlights the importance and complexity of the process. The status of GWCUA is the result of systematic work and compliance with European standards of club organization.

Treffen as an International Tradition

Every year GWEF approves an international calendar of meetings. Each country organizes a national gathering called a Treffen.

The word Treffen comes from German and means meeting or gathering. A similar meaning exists in Dutch as well. Within the international Gold Wing community, this term has become a symbol of a friendly meeting of like-minded people where the focus is not competition, but communication and the shared road.

Ukraine has been organizing its own Treffen since 2008. Over time these meetings have grown into large festivals that attract participants from many European countries.

For us, it is not just an event — it is an opportunity to present Ukraine to the world through culture, history, and hospitality.

War and a New Responsibility

With the beginning of the full-scale war, our club underwent a profound transformation. What was once primarily about travel and passion for motorcycles has become a matter of responsibility and active civic position.

The international status of GWCUA allowed us to speak directly to our European partners about the reality of the war in Ukraine. At every Treffen and at federation meetings we share the truth about the situation — about human stories, resilience, and the struggle for freedom.

From the first days of the war, our friends from European clubs organized collections of tactical, medical, and financial aid. Motorcycle travelers personally delivered vehicles, equipment, and humanitarian cargo. We received these deliveries in Ukraine and coordinated their distribution where they were needed most.

A Principled Position

In many countries there is a tradition that bikers stay outside politics. However, we believe that war is not politics. It is a struggle for life, freedom, and European values.

Gold Wing clubs from Russia and Belarus were removed from the community. It was a difficult but morally necessary decision. It demonstrated that the European motorcycle community supports justice and international law.

Symbols That Speak to the World

After the liberation of Borodianka, and once access to the city became possible, our entire club community visited the town. From the mayor we received the symbol of resilience — the Borodianka Ceramic Rooster.

This symbol became an international representation of Ukraine’s resilience.

The roosters traveled across Europe in the luggage cases of our club members and were presented to representatives of different countries as reminders of the Ukrainian tragedy and strength.

In 2024, club representatives visited 25 countries worldwide. During these visits we presented stones featuring images of Ukrainian murals and spoke directly about the struggle of our people — without intermediaries and without distortion.

Real Support

GWCUA is not a volunteer organization and does not conduct public fundraising campaigns. All assistance is provided by the members of the club themselves.

We purchase and modify equipment, supply drones, gear, warm clothing, and humanitarian cargo to affected regions.

We provide the military with evacuation vehicles and transport for frontline mobility. We also prepare and deliver motorcycles for combat tasks and operational mobility of units. Some of this equipment remains under our ongoing technical maintenance.

A bus for military use was prepared and delivered by our members. More than 30 drones have been delivered according to specific requests. The work continues systematically and continuously.

Central Office and HUB

The central office and club museum are located in Odesa. At the same time, a major operational part of the club works in Bila Tserkva, where a coordination HUB has been created.

This location has become a center for organizational work, coordination of assistance, and club meetings.

Memory and Loss

Some of our members are currently serving on the front line. Others are undergoing rehabilitation after injuries. Sadly, some have fallen in battle.

During the closing of the motorcycle season, we visited the Monument to Fallen Bikers in Bila Tserkva, founded by Yurii Popovych, the first Ukrainian Gold Wing rider recognized within the international community.

We honored the memory of everyone who gave their lives.

Together We Are Strong

Gold Wing Club Ukraine awarded active club members and representatives of the European federation with a special distinction — “Together We Are Strong.”

This award symbolizes the unity of the international Gold Wing community in supporting Ukraine. It reminds us that together we are stronger than any challenge.

Our Mission Today

GWCUA is the only official Gold Wing club in Ukraine within the European federation.

We continue to develop motorcycle tourism, maintain international connections, support Ukraine, and preserve the memory of those who gave their lives for freedom.

Gold Wing is more than a motorcycle.
It is responsibility.
It is community.
It is strength.
